Lolita New York - the shop

Most of you on FB would have already seen herdottyness' pics (yes, I'm talking to you ex-Voxers) to the rest of my friends from near and far... here's my take on yesterday's outing... its gonna be in parts cos I'm swamped with work and really should be clearing that and not blogging... but whatever... *giggle*

frankly speaking, in terms of pics, I don't have that much. Reason being... I am ready to toss my phone cum camera into the rubbish bin as soon as my contract expires and I can get a new one. Seriously... the silly camera keeps tell me to open the lens cover when its already open!!!! can vomit blood... but with a *lot* of persistence, here's some pics from Lolita NY @ Marina Square.

Just some back ground, Lolita NY was set up by the same people who brought you SilkMineral. Jo L, a good friend and salesperson, has expanded the range of miracle protein products available and these are sold solely at her shop and not online. I think its getting to a stage where everything that can have miracle protein in it is available in some shape or form.

Here's the section that has soaps, shampoos, facial cleanser, a lovely foot scrub and her latest product, essential oil blends. Let's kinda walk through the shelves...

Personally, I love her handmade soaps (the ones at the bottom of the picture). Each has miracle protein in it and special blends of essential oils to cater to different skin issues. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I use the soap for bathing and for washing my face. Currently, I'm using some of her older versions of her soaps but just stocked up yesterday with orange/bergamot, clarysage/lavender in both the plain and detox (with dead sea mud) versions. I can't wait to try them out. If you're around Marina Square, do drop by and take a whiff of the gorgeous scents. Then imagine filling your bathroom with them... sheer luxury I tell ya!

heading up on the left side of the pics, you can see two shelves with little bottles of additives that can be poured into shampoos/cleansers. They can do a variety of things, revitalize your scalp, soften your skin, ease eczema and the list goes on. You can either choose to add them to the products she sells OR you can bring them home and add them to what you're using. Now, isn't that lovely?

In between the shelves of additives, is the facial cleanser. Now I have a friend (you know who you are and you really should blog this yourself!!) who has ditched her SKII cleanser for Lolita's. Her baby's skin is doing much better too! Her choice of additives are miracle protein and lavender. I haven't tried it... *yet* just because I'm really happy with the soap bars.

Speaking of lavender... I gotta tell you... Lolita's lavender is like none other that I've smelt. Its soooooo good! I think it'd make a convert of the most die hard "hate lavender" club. Ok, enough of the side track...

Top shelf on the left holds her bottles of shampoo. She's got three varieties... Orange/Beramot, ClarySage/Lavender and TeaTree/Eucalyptus to cater to different scalp and hair needs. Again, I have my own favourite shampoo at the moment and have 1 litre left so this is on the "to try" list sometime down the line as well.

for more information on the soaps, additives and shampoos, head to Lolita's FB page and check out the photo albums. Lots to see and read there :)

On the other side, top to bottom, are facial masks (just add water), essential oil blends and miracle protein.

She's got tester shelves for her latest collections, little packets of trial size products and Taiwan's Yuan soaps.

Now here's the side of the shop that I really really had fun with...

I've been using SilkMineral colors since very early on. These are just a step further. More complex and interesting colors. More on that later on though.

And before I go, here's the price for the lip glosses I mentioned in another earlier post...

ok... I really have to run off to do some actual work.. not blogging... so I'll be back with swatches of all the pretty eyeshadow colors.

totally random

Since I’m away enjoying the loveliness that is Melaka… I thought I’d share this with you…

Can you guess what this is?

DSC09264 DSC09265

gave you two pics so it might be a little clearer…

.

.

no prizes for correct answers though… maybe one if someone does guess correctly… A, you’re disqualified cos I already told u!

give up?

well, my littlest fell asleep on my lap one afternoon. And since I was rather comfortable I let him. When he finally awoke aboout 1.5 hrs later, this is what I found on my thigh. The imprint of his ear! Does the pic make sense now? *evil grin*

I tell ya, the things that this mummy takes pics of is crazy.

Do you take random weird pics? what are they about? I’d love to hear. :)

Don’t you just love cashmere?

Hey everyone,

I know, I know, I’m on a major neutrals kick lately…. ah well. Guess its just trying to use something that will last the whole day without looking messed up after I’m done with chasing kids. Its the hols and this mummy is tired…

k… on with the EOTD for today… stash shopping again, this time trying *not* to use TSS at all… so here’s what I came up with.

From SilkNaturals website – description & swatches:

Dolce- copper brown shimmer- MAC Sweet Sienna clone

my thots : Love the ever so slight glitter in this e/s. And it does a fab job at defining my crease when I’m going for a ‘nude’ look.

 sndolce

Cashmere- shimmery nude pink

my thots : this is one of those colors I love using all over my lid. It brightens up my eyes and gives me a polished look without making me look ‘made up’. If that makes any sense whatsoever.

 SNcashmere

Monistat – all over eye area
NYX Jumbo eye pencil in yoghurt – on lid and smudged
SN’s Cashmere – patted on the lid and blended upwards til brow
SN’s Dolce – crease
Maybelline’s gel liner in brown – upper liner

I’ll be leaving on a road trip with my family and parents to Melaka this weekend so I’ll catch up with posts when I get back. I sure hope I can stop myself from buying a hundred and one things. Sigh. I know that getting my beaded sandals redone is definitely a must do. :D

RIP Gary Coleman

Different Strokes was a big part of my growing up years especially while in the USA. Gary made me laugh. I miss the series and I’ll miss his “watcha talkin’ about”.

I can still sing this theme song… can you?

A call at 4am…

Ok, so here’s another total rant… stop reading here if you don’t wanna hear all about it and scroll down about a page to read about more fun stuff… two hauls!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am soooo praying that this is just a STAGE in my eldest’s development. Been dealing with so many issue this past couple of weeks. Ranging from lying to stealing (well, according to him borrowing… but who borrows $100??) and now…
He spent the nite at my MIL’s. I went to bed forgetting to switch off my ringer on my handphone (this is my old set cos my new set won’t take photos and I had to send it in for servicing which is a whole ‘nother rant! *grrrrrrr*)
Woke up from a deep sound sleep by a very loud ringing phone. Picked up the call and was greeted by silence… lots of silence. Even with my repeated hullos… there was no reply… and then the call got disconnected. Given the number reflected by my caller id… the suspect list was really short… couldn’t be my MIL or my FIL… so only person left in the house… my son.
The call triggered one of the worst headaches I’ve had since getting preggy way back in 2001. It wasn’t an ache… but a throbbing pain echoing in my head. The kind that makes you wanna bang your head against something. So got up and popped in two panadols (paracetamol) and tried to go back to sleep.
Woke up late with the pain still there… mumbled some nonsense to my hubby over the phone (yeah, I know… same house and I can’t get my butt off my bed to go talk to him in person) and he coaxed me to go eat something so that he could give me a stronger painkiller afterwards. After breakfast, in went Ponstan, an antiacid and a muscle relaxant. All of which combined to make the pain more of a fuzzy interference in my head.
The meds have lasted quite a while and the pain hasn’t really returned… it more of a nagging ache now. Much easier to handle… just that I’m sensitive to sharp sounds. Sends an echo bouncing round my head. Sigh…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Anyways… on to more fun stuff… checked my mailbox…

*drum roll*

My package from LT was there… nice and fat… and so was my recent SN order. (no pics… cos no phone => no camera *sobs*)

*cartwheels around the room*

I <3 <3 getting packages in the mail!!!

opened LT’s first and here’s what she sent me (for pics, check out her post here -

  • SN perfecting powder (yippeeee I’m all out)
  • Revlon azure mist palette (been eyeing this in the stores but couldn’t bring myself to pay the price)
  • LA Splash liquid eyeliner in Blue Whale
  • EDM blush sample in Walkie Talkie
  • Body Shop blue and pink/peach e/s
  • Jessie’s Girl e/s in skywalker (can’t wait to try this one out!)
  • Ulta e/s in Truffle and Zephyr
  • Juice organics light tint moisturizer – sample size (ideal for my quick trip to Malacca coming soon)

Its been a while since I’ve gotten excited over m/u but getting my hands stuff I’ve been drooling over and itching to try… well, put it this way… pretty good chance I’ll be going out with my face done tomorrow. :D

Then I opened my second (smaller package).

*wanders off on a tangent*

You know how there are some companies that just give you such good service that you can’t stop buying from them? Well, I gotta say SilkNaturals is one of my all time fav m/u companies. Their customer service totally rocks! even when I had problems with shipping going awol, they made it up to me.

ok… so I placed an order to restock on perfecting powder, date bait, foundation (ebony, white and tried a packet of the new glow) and their new zinc powder. The way it works is that they give one free ‘surprise’ e/s and then with every $30 you get a e/s of your choice FOC.

well, I don’t like SN’s e/s… doesn’t suit my need for color *grin* but I DO like their lippies… so I added a note to my order asking if I could please change my free e/s to a lippie instead.

Surprise surprise… they not only sent my the freebie lippie I requested for but an extra one for good measure… and… I still got a free e/s thrown in.

The color I asked for was Fashionista… a nude wine shimmer vegan lipstick and I got Mirage (Ultra Nude Vegan Lip Gloss) as my extra. I have to say I wouldn’t have order Mirage on my own… but I can’t wait to see what it looks like on my lips and how it’d blend with other shades to make something special :)

So… the day started out bad and ended on a pretty upbeat note. Gotta stay thankful even on bad days, don’t you think?

stay cool everyone and Happy Thanksgiving for those of you who celebrate it.

A rant… a rave and…

some postive stuff first…

remember the lovely set from Crabtree and Evelyn that I got. Well, I’ve been using the hand therapy cream… really like the smell and how it feels on my hands.

I’ve never used a shea butter product before but I sure do like the way it gets absorbed into my skin and not leaving a residue behind. The tube sits on my computer table and I use it when I remember. I try to make sure to rub it into my cuticles too and my elbows.

On the whole, really liking this although I’m not sure if I’d buy if for myself. Still I have 2 tubes of it so it should last a long long time. :)

Been looking at the various holiday collections from mmu coys… tempting… oh so tempting but I’m staying strong… so far. I have put in an order with SilkNaturals for mre powders and foundie… in particular, gonna try out a more ‘glowy’ foundation. Can’t wait to see how that’s gonna turn out.

ok… really have to get this off my chest… totally not m/u related… but parents out there… help me out…

how do you keep your temper when dealing with a kid who doesn’t want to to do the work you set him? I’m clenching my teeth so much they ache and I think my blood pressure is sky rocketing. Seriously, 2 hours to do 1 problem sum question is totally nuts! I don’t really wanna ask my hubby for help cos his idea of help is the liberal use of Mr Cane. sigh…

prezzies… *big big grin*

so here’s what I got as some of my birthday prezzies…

from my darling hubby…

DSC08282

we found this at a shop at Parkway Parade. Looks like your normal choker but there’s a difference. Its magnectic beads… so you can come up with your own patterns for usage. Thing is that they do tend to stick to each other so it can get pretty messy.

DSC08288

Here’s a simple necklace I came up with and…

DSC08283

a cool bracelet.

He also found this while looking around at Guardian…

I’ve been looking for a nice shady sunhat for quite a while now. Need to hide my skin from the hot noon day sun as I bike around sending/picking kids.

DSC08331 DSC08330

Needless to say, I bought it in purple… I’ve tried it and it does a fabulous job of shading. No sunrays are able to get at my face. YAY!

what I especially like about this is that it rolls up easily into this…

DSC08329

which is small enough to go into my handbag or pocket. See the black elastic band that holds everything together? Japanese really know how to make things usable but oh so convenient.

Plus this is machine washable and according to the japlish description, protects against UV. So all in.. it was a lovely prezzie that has been used regularly.

Then from one of the sweetest gals I know… who spoils me silly… came this…

DSC08323

The flowers were buds when I got them and this is three days later… beautiful beautiful purple and white blossoms. I’ve no idea what the name of the flowers are and if you do recognise them, please let me know. I love them to pieces.

The red rose (still in its protective wrap) was from my hubby yesterday… he’s a sweetheart of a guy!

On top of the flowers, she gave me…

DSC08327  DSC08328

from Crabtree and Evelyn…. my favourite color and my one of my favourite scents.

DSC08326

Can’t wait to use the shower/bath gel in my bathtub. LOL! the hand therapy cream is already on my hands… *giggle*

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
side note : I’m discovering that extracting the memory card from my SE901 phone is… to put it mildly… a PITA!!!!!!! will try to get used to it so I do get some blog posts out but do excuse me if it gets more text heavy at some point.
til next time.. have a lovely purple day…. *big grin*
been a while …
*crossed posted on Nov 6 at Fr0nd's makeup madness*
its been a while... I know... call it a blogging dry zone or whatever you wish...
anyways just dropped by to describe what has to be my bestest birthday ever!
hubby took off (as usual) to spend the day with me... kid free!!!!! yipppee!!! now that has to be a prezzie in itself!
we went for breakfast at Carls' Jr (food wasn't really worth the trip), walked on the beach (one of my favourite places), wandered around Parkway Parade, picked up a funky magnectic bead accessory/game thingy... I've got pics just trying to figure out how to upload them... got a new SE C901 handphone to replace my dying SE K810... ate a free sundae at Swensen's then headed home for some good quality time in the bedroom playing with some new adult toys *evil grin*
In the evening, he brought me for some comfort food at a Taiwan porridge restaurant near our place then picked all the kids up and went home happy.
When my youngest saw me, he reached up to plant a kiss on my cheek and said "Mummy, I love you". That's the first time he's EVER said that... super super super touched....
Then for dinner last night, my mom cooked all my favourite foods... yum yum yum. Next was a huge layercake (kueh lapis) with ONE candle on top. (my kids blew it out!) Plus loads of Haagen Daz ice cream (Belgium and Midnite Cookies and Cream). I ate til my tummy was sooo round - almost looked like I was preggy again. LOL!
I'm a gal who is rather high maintenance in terms of attention and time spent so I really got my love tank totally filled up. Haven't been this happy for a looooong while to be honest. But really content, satisfied and counting my blessings cos I'm truly blessed!
AOK… cos I sincerely doubt it was random!
Some time in May, makeupstash had a Mother’s Day competition. Well, I didn’t join it but my good girlfriend did. And she won! I was really happy for her.
Here is a list of her prizes :
Mummy will win:
  • Ivoluxe Lipstick in Sensual
  • D36 Cheek Colour in Entice
  • D27 Eyeshadow in Suede (a gorgeous shimmery, flashing lime green with a touch of taupe!)
  • Highbrow in Cocoa
Mummy's Girl will win:
  • Ultragloss in Pop
  • Cheek Blush in Dolly
  • Metallogy Eyeshadow in Champagne
  • Undercover Concealer
She came by for lunch on her birthday… and gave me a prezzie. She told me she thought they would suit me better than her. Thanks dearie!
I’ve used Inuovi’s blush gel before and liked it (my pre-mmu days) so I’m pretty excited to have these lovelies to try out. I’ve never had a concealer before… yes, I refused to fork out $$ to get something I didn’t think I really needed. BUT I’m so glad I have one to try out now. The brow pencil will be fun to try. I’m just worried its a little too light. But we’ll see. The blush is sooo pretty and will be good for travelling. The lipstick has a hint of purple, its not a pure pink. Lovely lovely :)
And here before you ask for it are some lovely swatches… I won’t insult you by telling you which is which. *big grin*
Maybelline NY Workshop – part 2
As promised in this post, here’s the goodies I hauled from the workshop…
DSC07765
A lovely black and white makeup pouch that has a mirror attached.
DSC07774 DSC07773
Maybelline’s new Unstoppable mascara. Its got a nice, easy to use brush that does extend my lashes while giving them extra volume. Not as much volume as my other Maybelline mascara – Volum’ Express Turbo Boost - but good enough. What I may do is layer the two. :)
DSC07767
A lovely blush in Peach Sweety… I’ve used this twice again and really do like the color. Sad part is that it doesn’t seem to last as long on my face as my SilkNatural’s blushes do.
Am about to sign up and pay for two more workshops in August… still looking for my cheque book. Can you imagine in this day and age still asking for cheques? sigh… me thinks some companies need to be updated a little more.
this is one of the best explainations for applying a outer V using eyeshadow. Plus this look only has two shades of color.
Hope you enjoy it/learn as much as I have :D
Things that make being a mummy so worthwhile…
Totally not beauty related… but here’s what fills my heart to overflowing…
DSC07699
the guy on top is turning 4 next week. the gal is 5.
we were in the car after church and everyone was tired. my little guy lasted the longest and so ended up letting his older sister use his lap as a pillow. he’s really got a good caring heart.
Quick quick update
I’ve been so bad… looking back, my last proper update was June 3rd! that’s more than 10 days ago! there goes my promise to myself to post at least twice a week. *naughty fr0nd!*
so what have I been up to, you’d probably ask… lots! its the school hols and that always means family time. Plus my cousin went to Taiwan for 2 weeks and left me his car to use. YAY! you can do so many more thing with 3 kids when there’s a car involved.
So we had supper 2x… my kids very first supper. So now they’re true blue Singaporeans! I mean, can you imagine a Singaporean that’s never had supper before… ludicrous!
Here’s some happy faces…
 DSC07678 DSC07677
and here was what I enjoyed most…
DSC07681
so of the frothiest teh tarik I’ve had in ages. The froth came past the top of the cup. Sadly though, as I walked back to our table I passed a fan and my lovely froth went flying *cries*
still the drink was smooth and oh so very yummy.
more family stuff to come soon… :)
A quick update
tried to include this in the NYX swatch post but... Sorry for the slight break in postings... its exam season here in the house... my eldest is taking his mid year exams. As all Sinagporeans know, when kids take exams, the parents are the ones that are totally stressed out. sigh... it will get better by the end of this week. *wipes sweat*
then I came down with a lymph node infection last week (probably too much stress). The right side of my neck is sore and its just draining my energy. No idea why my lymph node needs to much energy but there you go... bed time comes often for me now... can't stay awake for long. Sad huh?
plus I'm working on a huge personal project. Something I've never done before. There's a huge learning curve and its taking tonnes of planning, energy, research and calculations. (many many thanks to the few of you who are working f/t as my sounding boards!)
then to top it off, some of my immediate family are giving me rubbish... which does not help in terms of stress levels (kinda related to my infection...)
I have been doing eotds but mostly been shopping my stash... not enough energy to do the swatches I *have* to do before using new colors. here's my current to do list in terms of m/u:
  • swatches for - TSS grab bag (yes, Cavano... haven't forgotten you!)
    • TSS LE Pisces
    • TSS LE Aquarius
    • TSS LE Random Acts of Color
  • and to use all of them together with...
    • my new Marjolica e/s palette BR751
    • NYX e/s
  • practice using my new false eyelashes (still haven't got the hang of it after watching tonnes of Youtube vids - ever seen a "flutter, flutter, flutter... flies away"? - I think I have powerful eye lids or something)
  • spring clean and sell some of my unused goodies
I hope to get them all done sometime this year... bwahahaha...
on another note, am declaring a serious no-buy from here on out... *falls over laughing*
More JH finds…
Japan Home is one of the shops that I’m always frightened/eager to visit… reason? inevitably I *will* find something that I itch to buy… sigh…
it was no different this visit…
 DSC05495
aren’t they lovely… so pretty… so appropriate to add to my m/u area… prices were reasonable. From right to left – USD$5.10/$4.45/$3.16 (SGD$7.90/$6.90/$4.90)
I also found these cute *purple* sharpeners… the single one was a mere USD0.58/SGD0.90 while the double was USD$0.84/SGD$1.30.
DSC05500  DSC05498
it was tempting… oh so very very tempting… but I resisted and held on to my “no buy”… after all, I already have a perfectly functioning storage system and a sharpener that is working very well for me. :P
BUT then, a good friend mentioned Cherryculture’s NYX 50% sale… eeeekkk!!! After much looking and “ahh…ing and oooo…ing”. Searched for swatches on different forums and blogs… honestly, Pursebuzz was the most horrid enabler… finally caved and placed an order for 3 more jumbo eye pencils… its a case of “gotta have them all!” Again, I restrained my urge to just order everything I didn’t already have… plus those lippies… *groan*… I was good… I was… *sobs*
The sale is only til the 15th and the code is NYX50… go! go! go!
RAOKs
I’m such a blessed person with loving caring generous friends. Here’s three other RAOKs that I’ve received this past month.
not in order of receipt…
from Ann,
a lovely bar of LureBeauty’s Sweetened Honey and Emu Oil Soap, two big pots of SN Tempt Trust and SN Love Lure + plain perfecting powder, MMBB undereye cream sample, Indelible gel liners in blackout, marcasite, peacock and tanzanite, Earthern Minerals in Jaded.
I am half way through my Filthy Farmgirl soap and was looking out for a new bar when Ann offered to pass me this to try. Sure am looking forward to it. :)
The gel liners have kinda dried up although the colors look fab. So I tried to rehydrate them with some glycerin… not that it was very successful. So I’m still trying to figure out what to do about dried up gel liners… any ideas?
EM’s Jaded looks really pretty and I’m looking forward to trying it out both as a base and as cream shadow.
and last but not least (and not photographed), she put everything into a MAC bag! My MAC collection is slowly but surely growing. To date, I have a MAC e/s sleeve, a MAC bag, three MAC e/s pigment samples and a f/s MAC SS! yay!
on a totally random note, another friend commented that I’m definitely a MAC person given my sheer love for colors. After thinking about it, I kinda agree. Give me a collection that’s colorful and I’d probably buy it. Give me a collection of neutrals… and I’d go… nah… no thanks. Go figure… *giggle*
DSC05189 DSC05190
Here’s an unexpected surprise from a gentle lady who takes care of my children in church plus she visits us about once a week. A really caring loving person.
She is a Laneige user and got me a whole collection of samples to try out plus a super pink e/s. The color to be honest was scary… but I love that there was a mirror on the back. Anyways, I gave this one back to her as I really don’t see myself using PINK much. :)
DSC05195 DSC05194
The one product that got my attention was the strawberry yoghurt pack. You open it and you smell strawberries. Not the fake kind of chemical strawberry smell but the kind that you get when you bite into a lucious juicy strawberry… yum!
 DSC05193
official description :
- This massage pack makes you feel the highly enriched strawberry yogurt texture without worrying about runny contents.
- Yogurt extract makes skin soft and strawberry extract gives a clean and healthy appearance.
- The larger capsule contains mineral water (with tomato, kiwi, grape, banana, and lemon extracts and essential minerals including calcium, magnesium and zinc) and lactic acid bacteria for an added nutrition and moisture to your skin.
- Vitamin E ingredients contained in the smaller capsule are absorbed into skin to make it smoother and healthier.
- Simple massaging at home turns dry skin supple and moisturized.
Can’t wait to try it :)
DSC05191
the rest of the collection: quick massage gel, power essential skin refiner, balancing emulsion 1, moisture fitting base and natural pure makeup base.
I’ll try them all out and report back on what I find.
last package… from a galfriend, Purple76.
a lovely little cloth bag and some of TSS’ black primer.
DSC05318
Not quite St. Patrick’s Day…
So I’m feeling green… that’s better than feeling blue right? :P
Did this for my first full day outing in a while (last Saturday). I’ve just been feeling so lousy lately but with our church’s Easter celebrations for the kids… well, my kids made me promise to go with them this one time.
Then I find out on Wednesday that I have to conduct my usual workshop for BMSG. A group I’m committed to helping out in. After all, I can’t pay it back but I sure can pay it forward! Being able to help and encourage other breastfeeding moms is so satisfying… I know its totally OT but making the effort to encourage even when I’m feeling bad :
bfg isn't a bed of roses... its a long hard marathon but it can be completed... just one step at the time.
and then getting comments like
I like this.. sounds so beautiful. :) I will use that as my motto. :)
It just makes everything so worthwhile! *big grin*
Then I got a call just before my workshop asking if we were free to join my cousin for dinner… its been ages since we last met up so I said yes and prayed real hard that I’d have the energy to last.
Dinner was a blast. My girl and his son paired up and my youngest and his daughter paired up… so cute! Its always fun to catch up with each other’s lives and enjoy each other’s company. I wish we did see more of each other but with different schedules… its been hard.
Ok, sorry for the long detour… back to my eotd… LOL!
