Lolita New York - rainbow colored eye shadows - PIC HEAVY!

This is a follow up on my previous post...

I spent a good hour playing with the eye shadows while wating for a friend to get 'lashed' up. *giggle*.

Eye shadows made by Jo L. are not new to me. I've been playing with them since her SilkMineral days. The textures and staying power have always been good. Different from my usual TSS shades. Slightly more creamy, if that makes any sense.

The full size prices were too high for my comfort zone and I have yet to finish a full size. To be honest, I haven't even finshed any sample baggie I have! Altho' I'm really really close with one of my favourite highlights. So it was with real excitment that I heard Lolita NY was now selling their eyeshadows at SGD3 a baggie. There's an option to pay for jars if you want them that way too. I went home with four little baggies of loveliness... read til the end to find out which. *grin*

These are swatches made on dry skin with no primer at all. I used the cotton buds provided at the store. So pigmentation as you can tell, is rather good. Except for a couple which turned out weird and I found out later where formulated to be used wet.

So lets get to the colors themselves... I'm gonna post several photos so you can get a better idea of the shades. Click on each picture and you should get larger images. Names will be listed from left to right, top to bottom.

Gold Socceress, Green Witch, Purple Temptress, Blue Elf
Break of Dawn, Misty Glow, Dreamy Haze, Yearning Heart
Angel, Charm, Fallen, Unspeakable

I'm gonna start from top to bottom. Angel was a matte purple with a vibrancy that I haven't seen elsewhere. Fallen and Unspeakable have a satin finish that is really very gorgeous.

Really liked Dreamy Haze and Yearning Heart. They have been calling my name for a long time.

Loved the look of the first row in their pots. The colors looked so complex and interesting. Was really disappointed with the way they swatched though... later I found out why. They were supposed to be used wet... so here's more pics of them swatched with a wet cotton bud. Apologies for the small pics but I think they do capture the eye shadows rather well.

NEXT!

New York Taxi, Brooklyn Skyline, Manhattan Skyline, Studio 54, Soho
Serendipity3, Liberty, Central Park, Hudson River, Niagara Falls
The Broadway, Moscato, White Rajah, Warrior Dance, Eagle Dance, Ritual Dance, Daan Kayuh

Studio 54 looked like a lovely crease color...

Central Park was a green that jumped out at me. But I have similar colors already in my collection.

Love the last row of mattes... brought a sample of Daan Kayuh home with me to use as a brow powder.

NEXT!

Asti, Cordon Rouge, Negro Diablio, Tequila Sunrise, Emeraldtini, Blue Lagoon
Rose Gold, Pure, Autumn Ray

Guess I'm on a green streak or something but Emeraldtini called to me and so did Autumn Ray. So I brought both of them home. My other pics for this visit were Yearning Heart and Daan Kayuh.

Stay tune for one more post on these eye shadows and then another on the blusher range... so many pictures and so little time to blog... such is life huh?

I am officially broke… (part 2)

To continue my Watson’s hauls… sigh… I searched two outlets for Canmake blushes. Finally found them… swatched all six colors (01 to 06 from left to right; top to bottom) and four Majolica Majorca Neo liquid liners (no, I don’t remember the code numbers).

I won’t bother to post pics of the display unit or the individual blush casings… they’re all over the blogsphere… just do a search. I did do swatches for my own reference. Something I like to do so that I see how it turns up on my skin tone.

The pics were taken in store and without any base using my fingertips.

DSC08545  DSC08543

Am so tempted to pick up the green liner and the dark brown liner… but that’d put me back another close to 40 bucks.

As for the blushes… was really drawn to 01 which was a pretty light pink. There was only one left too… but in the end decided on 05 which is a peachy pink.

Used with a fibre optic brush (Ann’s suggestion), it produces a pretty flushed look on my skin. Quite like it and have used it two days in a row now. In terms of lasting power, I can still see it on my cheeks at the end of a 12 hour day so I think that’s pretty good mileage. Am happy with my buy and thinking… just thinking… about 01 still.

I brought my daughter along with me on this swatching adventure. Monkey see, monkey do right? so this was the result…

DSC08542DSC08541

can pass? I think got some hope ya?

and see her pretty sparkly slip ons. My mil just brought them home from Hanoi… she’s so proud of them.

My last purchase was the much raved about Maybelline gel eye liner. I got this in brown. Again, it was at 20% off so it was a good time to give it try. I haven’t opened it yet so have got no swatches and no opinions to share. Will definitely update you when I do get my brush into the pot. *giggle*

Have a colorful day everyone! I know I am. :D

I am officially broke… (part 1)

Watsons… can I say that I hate your sales? the 20% off on makeup items is just so tempting even someone on a tight budget like myself can’t resist. Then to have them offer 20% off on Majolica Majorca for the first time ever… how on earth could I resist? (I also blame Ann for her lovely enabling power!)

So.. I’ve been lemming the new colors ever since they launched in fall 2009.

Perfect automatic liner.jpg

I’ve got their older liners in Black (999) and Shiny Black (I think 991 or 995) but really wanted colored liners. So this was the perfect opportunity (and yes, I am punning. LOL!)

Colors I got are BL603 (blue) and GR604 (green).

so.. swatch time! this pic was taken in daylight. The inner two lines were done with enough liner liquid for it to be visibly higher than my skin. Kinda like a long bubble of liner. It took quite a while to dry. The outer two lines was done with much less liner.

 DSC08540

My opinion…

If you like color and are willing to wait while they dry… get these liners. They really do last a looooong time on your eye once dry. I used the blue one yesterday for more than 12 hours with no smudging at all… before you ask.. eotd pics are in the works.

If you like darker liners, get this.

However….

If you prefer a less watery liquid liner, get the old range “Neo” which is less watery, dries faster but has less fun colors (at least according to me).

If you have the type of eye lid which creates a new line if you blink before the liner dries, do NOT get these liners… you’ll smudge big big time unless you have strong lid discipline!

For me, its back to lemming for Neo liners… I’d love to get one in both the light brown and the darker brown. Don’t really like the other shades… *sobs*

Sole affair

First up, what I refer to as my cute heels. They aren’t formal at all and not what I expect to see from heels. The brand is North Star which normally sells track/running shoes. Hence the casualness of these I guess.

Like I said in the last post, original price was RM89.90. Got them at a whopping 70% off. So after taking into consideration the FX rate, price for me was S$20/US$14.

DSC08389

Love the teal blue and white. Got a lovely teal long dress that would match pretty much perfectly *happy happy*

DSC08387

and look at the heels. Gotta make sure to practice a little before leaving the house. Haven’t really used heels this high since I’ve had kids and that’s… erm… 9 years ago?

On to something a little more ethnic. If you were to meet a Peranakan woman a couple decades ago, chances are high that she’d be wearing one of these

(pic from here)

Well, personally, I don’t like the old fashioned look of these and prefer to have an open toed pattern (to show of my pretty nails especially after a pedi… yes, I’m vain)

So this is my latest pair of beaded sandals (I’ve got two others. Pics on the way). Actually, I have no need to get these… I just wanted them. And they looked so pretty. So I picked my pattern and my color (you can choose both) and the nice lady made a pair of sandals for me.

DSC08383

DSC08385

See how pretty the little flowers look? And to think someone hand beaded them one by one. Oh the time taken… if I had to do it, my eyes would surely be totally crossed!

Finally, here’s my lovely cheap pair of ‘classy’ heels. They were a “quick! I have to get these” type of buy. One size too big but at S$10 they were seriously a steal. Love the stitching detailing, the buckle and the nice red inside. Had to buy two sets of insoles just to make them a little more wearable.

DSC08380DSC08382

Haven’t worn any of these shoes yet.. been in a pretty casual mood lately. But they’re sitting pretty on my shoe shelf and I can’t wait to wear them. :)

A call at 4am…

Ok, so here’s another total rant… stop reading here if you don’t wanna hear all about it and scroll down about a page to read about more fun stuff… two hauls!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am soooo praying that this is just a STAGE in my eldest’s development. Been dealing with so many issue this past couple of weeks. Ranging from lying to stealing (well, according to him borrowing… but who borrows $100??) and now…
He spent the nite at my MIL’s. I went to bed forgetting to switch off my ringer on my handphone (this is my old set cos my new set won’t take photos and I had to send it in for servicing which is a whole ‘nother rant! *grrrrrrr*)
Woke up from a deep sound sleep by a very loud ringing phone. Picked up the call and was greeted by silence… lots of silence. Even with my repeated hullos… there was no reply… and then the call got disconnected. Given the number reflected by my caller id… the suspect list was really short… couldn’t be my MIL or my FIL… so only person left in the house… my son.
The call triggered one of the worst headaches I’ve had since getting preggy way back in 2001. It wasn’t an ache… but a throbbing pain echoing in my head. The kind that makes you wanna bang your head against something. So got up and popped in two panadols (paracetamol) and tried to go back to sleep.
Woke up late with the pain still there… mumbled some nonsense to my hubby over the phone (yeah, I know… same house and I can’t get my butt off my bed to go talk to him in person) and he coaxed me to go eat something so that he could give me a stronger painkiller afterwards. After breakfast, in went Ponstan, an antiacid and a muscle relaxant. All of which combined to make the pain more of a fuzzy interference in my head.
The meds have lasted quite a while and the pain hasn’t really returned… it more of a nagging ache now. Much easier to handle… just that I’m sensitive to sharp sounds. Sends an echo bouncing round my head. Sigh…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Anyways… on to more fun stuff… checked my mailbox…

*drum roll*

My package from LT was there… nice and fat… and so was my recent SN order. (no pics… cos no phone => no camera *sobs*)

*cartwheels around the room*

I <3 <3 getting packages in the mail!!!

opened LT’s first and here’s what she sent me (for pics, check out her post here -

  • SN perfecting powder (yippeeee I’m all out)
  • Revlon azure mist palette (been eyeing this in the stores but couldn’t bring myself to pay the price)
  • LA Splash liquid eyeliner in Blue Whale
  • EDM blush sample in Walkie Talkie
  • Body Shop blue and pink/peach e/s
  • Jessie’s Girl e/s in skywalker (can’t wait to try this one out!)
  • Ulta e/s in Truffle and Zephyr
  • Juice organics light tint moisturizer – sample size (ideal for my quick trip to Malacca coming soon)

Its been a while since I’ve gotten excited over m/u but getting my hands stuff I’ve been drooling over and itching to try… well, put it this way… pretty good chance I’ll be going out with my face done tomorrow. :D

Then I opened my second (smaller package).

*wanders off on a tangent*

You know how there are some companies that just give you such good service that you can’t stop buying from them? Well, I gotta say SilkNaturals is one of my all time fav m/u companies. Their customer service totally rocks! even when I had problems with shipping going awol, they made it up to me.

ok… so I placed an order to restock on perfecting powder, date bait, foundation (ebony, white and tried a packet of the new glow) and their new zinc powder. The way it works is that they give one free ‘surprise’ e/s and then with every $30 you get a e/s of your choice FOC.

well, I don’t like SN’s e/s… doesn’t suit my need for color *grin* but I DO like their lippies… so I added a note to my order asking if I could please change my free e/s to a lippie instead.

Surprise surprise… they not only sent my the freebie lippie I requested for but an extra one for good measure… and… I still got a free e/s thrown in.

The color I asked for was Fashionista… a nude wine shimmer vegan lipstick and I got Mirage (Ultra Nude Vegan Lip Gloss) as my extra. I have to say I wouldn’t have order Mirage on my own… but I can’t wait to see what it looks like on my lips and how it’d blend with other shades to make something special :)

So… the day started out bad and ended on a pretty upbeat note. Gotta stay thankful even on bad days, don’t you think?

stay cool everyone and Happy Thanksgiving for those of you who celebrate it.

prezzies… *big big grin*

so here’s what I got as some of my birthday prezzies…

from my darling hubby…

DSC08282

we found this at a shop at Parkway Parade. Looks like your normal choker but there’s a difference. Its magnectic beads… so you can come up with your own patterns for usage. Thing is that they do tend to stick to each other so it can get pretty messy.

DSC08288

Here’s a simple necklace I came up with and…

DSC08283

a cool bracelet.

He also found this while looking around at Guardian…

I’ve been looking for a nice shady sunhat for quite a while now. Need to hide my skin from the hot noon day sun as I bike around sending/picking kids.

DSC08331 DSC08330

Needless to say, I bought it in purple… I’ve tried it and it does a fabulous job of shading. No sunrays are able to get at my face. YAY!

what I especially like about this is that it rolls up easily into this…

DSC08329

which is small enough to go into my handbag or pocket. See the black elastic band that holds everything together? Japanese really know how to make things usable but oh so convenient.

Plus this is machine washable and according to the japlish description, protects against UV. So all in.. it was a lovely prezzie that has been used regularly.

Then from one of the sweetest gals I know… who spoils me silly… came this…

DSC08323

The flowers were buds when I got them and this is three days later… beautiful beautiful purple and white blossoms. I’ve no idea what the name of the flowers are and if you do recognise them, please let me know. I love them to pieces.

The red rose (still in its protective wrap) was from my hubby yesterday… he’s a sweetheart of a guy!

On top of the flowers, she gave me…

DSC08327  DSC08328

from Crabtree and Evelyn…. my favourite color and my one of my favourite scents.

DSC08326

Can’t wait to use the shower/bath gel in my bathtub. LOL! the hand therapy cream is already on my hands… *giggle*

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
side note : I’m discovering that extracting the memory card from my SE901 phone is… to put it mildly… a PITA!!!!!!! will try to get used to it so I do get some blog posts out but do excuse me if it gets more text heavy at some point.
til next time.. have a lovely purple day…. *big grin*
Sasa find
Popped into Sasa… and it wasn’t my idea! believe it or not, my hubby wanted to go in to take a look at the fragrances for men. :P
Anyways was browsing around, not planning to buy anything, especially given the current state of my wallet and bank account… when I saw these lovely ladies.
DSC08132 DSC08133
while I don’t think of myself as a super girly girl… I literally squealed over how cute they were. Each tweazer is decorated to be a stylish lady. Each has a different theme. I wish I had taken a quick pic of the whole group but these were the two I settled on finally.
I’ve used one and find its pretty good for cleaning up my eyebrows (the hairs I do dare to pluck). Even if you don’t like how they function… they sure do look pretty sitting with the rest of my beauty equipment… much better than my plain black one! and at S$5.90 each… I think they’re a steal!
:D
LT’s raok
So my dear Vox friend (who has since moved to blogspot) had a giveaway in June and I won! :D
So here’s what I got :
1) a cute note… love the teeth LT!
DSC07949
an overview shot…
DSC07948
2 ) Liners
please note the black pen (middle right). I forgot to take a close up of it. :(
It was the Revlon Colorstay liner in blackest black. Its basically a felt tip pen liner. I was able to get both a super thin line and a thicker one rather easily.
Haven’t tried it on my eyes yet but will definitely get around to it :)
DSC07960
next was the Rimmel Exaggerate waterproof eye definer in purple shock. This is a red toned purple which I’m kinda iffy about trying on my eyes (I prefer cool tones). But I will and I will take pics too.
Its got a smudger tool at the end of it which is pretty soft when tested on my hand. Waiting to see what it will do on my eyes.
a sparkly liquid eyeliner by Dot Dot
wondering if I should try using this on top of #3.
DSC07973 DSC07974
3) Lauress Revital-Eyes eye primer
the question is whether it will take the place of my beloved Monistat. :P stay tuned….
DSC07961
4) Eyeshadows
Revlon cream shadows – if I’m not wrong they’re from the Illuminance range and this is Precious Metals.
the left most swatch is…
5) Blush
6) last but not least…. another soap for me to try… don’t have to buy soaps for a while at the rate I’m going :)
this one smells rather nice although I don’t normally go for food scents. And Goat’s Milk should make a rather moisturizing bathtime :)
DSC07981
Thanks LT for all the goodies and apologies for the delay in getting this posted!! *hugs*
